As every year, May marked the beginning of another long fieldwork season for the team of the University of Warsaw’s Centre for Research on the Antiquity of Southeastern Europe. As early as the second week of the month, some of the staff arrived in Risan, only to quickly repack the necessary equipment and head for Albania.

The first week of the campaign in Bushat alternated between sunny weather and heavy rainfall. Nevertheless, the Centre’s tireless team, this time consisting of B. Wojciechowski, A. Momot and A. Jarych, continues its research on the summit of the hill overlooking the town, where a temple, probably functioning between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC, may once have stood.

The work is currently focused on uncovering the corners and walls of the fortifications that may have enclosed the entire temple complex. Small finds discovered at the site, such as building ceramics, fragments of amphorae and a silver coin bearing the image of Heracles, are making the archaeological puzzle increasingly clear.

The research will continue until the first week of June, after which the team will return to its base in Risan. We will keep you updated on further progress.
