Summer ’24 with the Centre VII
04 08 2024
The final part of our journey led us to Novae. This time, it was Prof. P. Dyczek who set off first on a reconnaissance mission. Following him, tireless and without wasting a moment, was the previously mentioned team from Amarok. Nothing could stop them. They forged ahead, bravely holding the keys to the Balkans in their hands.
Novae greeted us with intense heat and the remarkable cordiality of the base’s guardian, now a grown-up dog named Django.
This year, we face an exceptionally long campaign, and thus our research goals are ambitious. One of the most important objectives is to complete discovery and documentation of the connection between two large channels, which was already recorded last year.
The first days of excavation work have clearly shown that even a precisely planned grid of new trenches often needs to be adjusted. This time, it turned out that one of the channels veers off, and its most interesting section lies right under our feet. This situation perfectly illustrates the informal motto of one of the previous campaigns in Novae – “never predict”.
This time, we will report the progress of the excavation work in Novae by following the activities of the team comprising Piotr Dyczek, Adam Jarych, Agata Momot, Krzysztof Narloch, and Bartosz Wojciechowski. Additionally, this year we are joined by a ‘pottery duo’: Dr. hab. Inga Głuszek from Nicolaus Copernicus University and Giuseppe Campitelli from the University of Chieti-Pescara. We will be supported by a group of 25 workers, seasoned veterans of excavations in Novae.
